Last Friday I went to the Austin Bouldering Project (ABP) my home gym. I was kind of tired and still recovering from boulderfest. I went in with the intention of going to vinyasa II class at 5:30pm. I showed up at 4:00pm.
too early...
I decided to do some maintenance climbs and enjoy myself. Not take it too seriously this session. As I was changing into my climbing shoes I noticed a woman who was getting ready, looked really fit and interesting tattoos along her left arm, pale blue eyes. and brown/red hair. Cute and I was slightly shy. She was cute.
I started my routine. Along the walls. I realized I felt not too bad so I was trying some increasingly daring problems.
I saw her on this big wall. She was climbing a v6 and the start was a wide arm pull up. I saw her back/bicep muscles flex, her eyes were fierce. When she got up half way and dropped she retracted back into this warrior kneel pose.
I was honestly intrigued in this woman. I wanted to maybe prove to her that I was at her level so I tried the same problem. The first move I couldn’t do and failed miserably. The gym was kind of empty with not many climbers on the wall. So I’m sure she watch me fail miserably and saw me retract a little. I figured I could talk to her about the problem as an opener for introductions. So no, I don’t think it would kick off too well. I decided to finish my routine.
Yoga started and the mystery woman walked through the door. I was kind of happy to see her. She went to the back and another woman layed her mat next to me. The instructor asked us to turn to our neighbor and ask
What brought you joy this week?
What an odd question, and the woman, Jen, answered she got to go visit New York last week for work. She was cute too.
At the end of yoga, we cleaned up our mats and I said goodbye to Jen and started packing up my stuff. I went back to the cubbies and there the mystery girl was right outside of mine sitting on the bench across. She was putting on her regular shoes so I decided this is my chance to say something.
Dialogue
Me: Your tattoos are really cool
Her: Thank you (shows me her arm)
Me: Is it the alphabet?
Her: Yeah! in different fonts.
Me: (Little Shocked) Sees my reaction
Her: I'm a typeface artist
Me: Oh that's cool, what's your favourite font?
Her: -----Forgot what the answer was-------
Me: Can you show me?
Her: (she starts pointing around her arm)
Me: What's this one? one?
Her: (She's explaining all her fonts)
Me: My name is Sul (extend my hand), what's your name?
Her: My name is *
Me: I'm sorry, your name is one letter?
Her: yeah haha, and my sisters name begins with an I so that's why it's tattooed to me in blocks.
Me: Blocks?
Her: Yeah, the top of the i is 1/4 and the stick is 3/4.
Me: oooooo, that's cool!
Her: (She heads to the cubbies)
Me: Your name must be really easy to put in phones.
Her: I'm at the top of all my friends contact lists
Me: (Silent)
We pack up
Her: (She turns to me, smiles and waves), I'll see you
I liked her voice. I didn’t want to ask for her number just yet, I want to see if I like her and maybe also take it slow. It took me a little while to find a time right but when it did show I took the opportunity.
Next week Friday I’ll go to the same class and maybe show up early again. I’ll probably work on the problem as well.
Guess what letter her name of the alphabet was?
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
