I was curious about what drugs and by which region are ingested in the United States. What does the general population take? I figured based on the amount seized we could tell what is popular and perhaps figure out a reason as to why.
The first step is to figure out what government entities collect this type of data:
This was interesting, I wasn’t aware that the Drug Enforcement Agency, Customs Border Protection and the U.S. Coastal Guard all receive drug statistics data.
ChatGPT eluded to the fact that as a citizen I can also have access to these reports if I so request them.
I sent then then a message request to the respective government bodies:
We are training our Generative AI based on different chemical lists.
We trained our system on your Scheduled List to predict what new drugs will be
on the market before they happen with synthetic accessibility.
I am requesting, as part of the Freedom of Information Act and as a U.S Citizen
for a year summary report of every drug seized in the United States based on
which region or state.
My goal for this data is watch what the country is importing or exporting
to design preventive medicine in the hospitals.
And submitted by request to the DEA, CBP, and U.S. Coastal Guard. Low and one has granted my request so far:
Taking a deeper look:
One thing that was odd was the the “Other Drugs**” category where some of the new drugs were a little tricky to find. Things like xylazine. However fentanyl was becoming on the rise and a different one I haven’t identified before “Khat”.
This is a wealth of data for someone to explore and now we can make bigger correlations on drug statistics as they are transported.
